Missing teeth can cause many different problems with your mouth and smile, from altering your facial shape to changing the alignment of your bite. Missing teeth can also cause you to feel self-conscious about your smile and affect your confidence levels. No matter if you are missing a single tooth or all of your teeth, it’s important to know that there are options available so that you don’t need to continue with missing teeth or gaps in your smile.

Dental implants are one of the most popular treatments here at Beyond Dental for missing teeth and can provide a permanent solution to tooth loss. But, what do you need to know about getting dental implants? Let’s find out!

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are screws that are placed into the jaw so that a permanent replacement tooth can be attached. Dental implants use a titanium screw that replaces the root of a tooth following tooth loss and creates a strong, sturdy base to which we can attach your replacement tooth. Placing a dental implant into the jawbone requires surgery, but you’re in the best hands here at Beyond Dental!

Our team of dentists and nurses are on hand to make sure your treatment is as comfortable as possible and are able to provide help and advice before, during and after your treatment and answer any questions you may have about getting dental implants. Following the placement of dental implants, the bone surrounding the implant will fuse together with the metal, holding it firmly in place and providing you with a permanent tooth loss solution.

What Does Dental Implant Surgery Involve?

When patients hear that surgery is involved with getting dental implants, this can often cause unease and nerves. However, there is nothing to worry about when it comes to dental implant surgery! Getting dental implants fitted is a straightforward procedure and, here at Beyond Dental, we make sure that you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. With our comfy dental chairs, luxury clinics and friendly team, you’ll feel at ease!

Dental implant surgery depends on the type of implants you are having, plus the condition of your jawbone. Before getting dental implants, we’ll carry out a full check of your mouth and oral health to ensure that treatment is right for you. Using the latest dental technology, we can carry out scans and x-rays to get a full in-depth look at your oral health,  and can show you on our screens!

Then, dental implants are placed directly into your jawbone and, we can assure you, that you won’t feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure. You might feel some pressure or slight vibrating sensations due to the drill used, but that’s all! Then, we’ll place the implant into your jawbone and attach a temporary crown that will stay in place whilst your implant heals. You might feel some swelling and discomfort for a few days following the surgery, but this is completely normal and can be soothed with painkillers and cold compresses. Getting dental implants is as simple as that!

Is Getting Dental Implants Right For Me?

Getting dental implants isn’t the right treatment for everyone and, depending on your oral health, might not be suitable. There are some lifestyle habits that might affect your suitability for getting dental implants, such as if you smoke, currently have gum disease or have previously had treatments, such as radiotherapy, around your jawline. If you are under 18 years old, then as your jawline is still growing and developing, you won’t be eligible for dental implants.

Some people also don’t have enough jawbone in order for us to attach dental implants, which means you may need a supporting treatment, however, we can discuss this further during your initial consultation. If you’d like more information on our dental implant treatments, or would like to arrange your initial consultation, contact the Beyond Dental team today!
