How Does Dental Composite Bonding Work?

Dental composite bonding is frequently used to improve the appearance of your smile, whether that be filling gaps or reshaping the teeth.

We use our 5D scanning technology to create a preview of what your smile will look like after composite bonding treatment.

We fix a composite resin to your affected tooth or teeth and hand shape it to match your natural teeth in order to achieve the desired effect.

We then match the colour of the resin to the rest of your teeth and set the resin using an ultraviolet light.

Once it is set and hardened, we will gently polish the resin so that it matches the smoothness and shine of the rest of your teeth.

Dental composite bonding treatment is super simple and straightforward – we don’t want the fear of treatment time to stand in the way of you and a bright new smile!

If you have any questions regarding dental composite bonding treatment, contact us today and we can arrange an initial consultation.

Dental Composite Bonding FAQs

What Is Dental Composite Bonding?
Due to the nature of non-permanent effects of composite bonding treatment, it is one we often use for our Smile Makeovers. It can instantly improve the appearance of teeth, making it the perfect treatment for helping you achieve a brighter, whiter smile that you’ll be proud to show off.

Dental composite bonding, a cosmetic treatment also known as dental bonding or tooth bonding, is a solution for repairing minor tooth damage or gaps. With composite bonding, a composite resin is attached and moulded to restore the original appearance of your smile. The composite bonding resin is matched to your teeth so that any repairs appear natural.
How Long Does Dental Composite Bonding Last?
With good oral hygiene and regular check ups with our Beyond Dental dentists, you can expect any composite bonding work to last for a number of years. Composite bonding uses a strong resin material, but it is not invincible. In order to properly maintain your composite bonding treatment, we recommend that you avoid smoking, tea, coffee and foods which could stain for around 48 hours following your treatment. Try not to bite things such as pen lids and ice or use your teeth to open things - remember, composite bonding isn’t as strong as your natural teeth so could be more prone to damage.
Is Composite Bonding Painful?
No, composite bonding is a pain-free treatment. No anaesthetic is required to carry out the procedure and there will be no manipulation or drilling of your natural teeth. The resin we use at our Beyond Dental clinics for composite bonding will be applied to your teeth by one of our dentists and hand moulded to mimic the natural shape of your teeth. There will be some gentle polishing towards the end of the treatment to get, but you’ll likely just feel some vibrations whilst this is being carried out.
Is Composite Bonding Bad For Your Teeth?
Compost bonding treatment uses a hard-wearing and long-lasting resin that can be applied to the surface of your teeth with very minimal prep work. As very minimal preparation work is needed, there is no damage caused to your teeth and you will leave our clinic with a smile transformed.

Composite bonding resin can be easily removed, repaired or replaced and, should you have it removed, there will be no lasting damage caused. You might notice that, following the removal of composite bonding from the surface of your teeth, you may temporarily experience heightened sensitivity. This can be easily treated with sensitive toothpaste and the sensitivity will wear off after a few weeks.
What Is The Difference Between Composite Bonding and Veneers?
Composite bonding is used to repair cosmetic complaints in singular teeth. Whilst composite bonding and composite veneers use the same resin material, veneers typically are applied to multiple teeth at the same time. For more minor cosmetic complaints that apply to an individual or couple of teeth, we will usually recommend composite bonding for your treatment as opposed to a full set of veneers as it is less invasive and is often much less expensive. Of course, we understand that every Beyond Dental patient is different, so we’ll discuss the treatment, cost and your personal expectations during your initial consultation.
