Dental Implants FAQs

Are Dental Implants Uncomfortable?
Once fitted, dental implants should not be uncomfortable and whilst the process of getting dental implants might feel a little strange, the treatment itself should not cause any pain or discomfort. Dental implants are fitted using a local anaesthetic, which means that at the very most, all you should be able to feel is slight pressure. Following dental implant treatment, you will go through a period of recovery where your jawbone fuses to the implant, but again, this should be pain-free.

Following Dental implant treatment, you might notice some slight discomfort, however, this can be treated with painkillers. A lot of our Beyond Dental implant patients either liken it to the feeling after a tooth extraction, or report it as being a pain-free procedure overall. Here at Beyond Dental, we will be with you every step of the way for your dental implant treatment, so if at any point you have any questions, or experience some discomfort during your treatment, please let us know so that we can support you further.
How Long Should Dental Implants Last?
Dental implants are designed to be a permanent solution to tooth loss. Studies have shown that dental implant treatment has around a 90-95% success rate of lasting for over 10 years. However, how long your dental implants last depends entirely on your oral care routine. With regular brushing and flossing, as well as frequent dental checkups, you can expect your implants to last much longer.
What Do Full Dental Implants Look Like?
When having full dental implant treatment, you might expect your new teeth to look more like dentures than natural teeth, however, the procedure is much more interesting than that! With full dental implant treatment, we fix small titanium implants (these look a little like screws) into different points of your mouth - usually each corner. These implants then support and are secured to your new teeth. Because full dental implants are made using titanium, they’re unlikely to cause any reactions when they are attached to your jawbone.
Can You Eat Normally With Dental Implants?
Following your dental implant surgery, we recommend that you avoid eating food that is overly hot and instead, eat foods that are soft and easy to chew. This is to reduce the risk of damaging or displacing your dental implants for the first few days, allowing your jawbone and surrounding tissue to heal. For the first week following your dental implant treatment, you should avoid eating foods that are particularly hard or crunchy as this can cause the implants to move or shift. The three to six months following your dental implant treatment are imperative, as this is when most of the bone fusion between the implant and your jawbone takes place.
What Are The Benefits of Full Dental Implants?
There are many benefits of having full dental implants, but perhaps the most important benefit is the fact that dental implants both act and feel like natural teeth. Because the implants act just like a natural root, this gives your new teeth the stability that you don’t get with dentures. Not only are dental implants long-lasting and cost-effective, but they are also easy to look after and can transform the appearance of your facial structure. Full dental implants let you talk, eat and laugh with confidence, which is our focus here at Beyond Dental.
